FAQ - Lacewood Studios Photography
Moncton Wedding Photographer

Let's face it, weddings are a lot of work! And choosing the right wedding photographer can be one of your biggest decisions. You want someone who fits you just perfectly - style, personality, and price.

Questions to Ask Yourself:

- Do I feel a connection with this photographer as well as his/her photos?

- Are our personalities a good match?

- Do I love this photographer's STYLE of artistry?

What's Your style?

I describe my shooting style as a mix of Fine Art (Timeless, classic Beauty that is unique and breathtaking), and Lifestyle photography (Candid, photo documentary style that captures real emotions and moments). I'm passionate about getting genuine moments and not staged shots - making memories of your ACTUAL wedding, and not something fabricated or made up.

Do you Direct/ Help Pose at all?

YES! During our official photo session I use my loud Italian voice to tell your family, bridal party, or yourselves, where to go while we get those wonderful shots.;) I am capable of taking charge, keeping people organized, and directing. But for your preparations, ceremony, and reception I am merely there to capture your day as it happens, and not to make it revolve around me.

What will the day look like?

I try to be helpful, cheerful, and calming. I always try my best to make your day the best it can be, and to make it all about you! It is your day, after all. I do not bring large studio lights to your ceremony - those are distracting for your guests, and not necessary for getting the perfect shot. I try always to be discreet, but I DO move around a lot. During the ceremony, I may step up close or move around behind you to catch that perfect angle.

Do we really NEED an engagement session?

An Engagement session is like a dry run for your wedding day. This gives you a chance to feel comfortable with me, to get comfortable in front of the camera, and for me to better understand your personalities so that I can really capture you at your best. Your engagement session will give you photos you can use for your invitations or save the date cards, for your slideshow at your reception, and a book as well.

Are you the photographer who will shoot my wedding?

Yes. As the sole proprietor of my business, I am the primary shooter at all my weddings. My work is a reflection of my own artful taste and personality. I also have an assistant/second shooter that I work with regularly. (Ask if your package includes a second shooter).

How experienced are you?

I have been capturing weddings since 2004, and have been officially running Lacewood Studios as a legal business since 2009, when I  permanently settled in Moncton.

Do you have a portfolio I can review?

Of course! I regularly update my portfolio on my website in the Wedding Gallery section. I also suggest checking out some Wedding Blogs to get a better idea of what a whole wedding day with me looks like.

What type of equipment do you use? Do you have backup equipment?

As a professional photographer, I always say that is MY job to be paranoid so that you don't have to!  I shoot with a full frame, professional line DSLR. I bring two camera bodies, because it is important to be prepared for anything. I use high quality, prime lenses, and only shoot RAW images - which means that EVERY image you receive from me has been personally 'developed' by me, to look its best.

Is it okay if other people take photos while you’re taking photos?

I always allow others to take photos during every part of the day except the formal session with the bridal party and with just the bride and groom themselves. Trust me, your aunts and uncles will snap a million photos of you throughout the day, and that's alright. But it's hard to get genuine, authentic and relaxed romantic images with a huge audience, so for your bride and groom portraits we always sneak off alone.

Have you ever worked at my wedding site before? How do we pick portrait locations?

I have worked at a lot of wedding and reception sites in our area. If I have never been there before, I always make a trip to scout out the location in advance. It's important for your photographer to be prepared! I also love to find the perfect portrait locations. We work together to find somewhere that suits your taste.

Is there a travel fee for out of town weddings?

There is a travel fee for all locations outside of the Moncton/Riverview/Dieppe city limits. The fee depends on location, and covers gas, travel time, and depending on distance may include hotel stay (you don't want your photographer stuck out-of-town on the morning of your wedding!)

Will you give me the digital images and the rights to use them, and is there a fee for that?

Yes I will give them to you! No, there is no extra fee. I firmly believe that your memories belong to you, and I think it is ridiculous for modern, digital photographers to 'hold your photos for ransom'. I never limit your photos: you receive every successful (not blinking or blurry) photo, and I never charge you more!

Do you edit the photos?

Because I shoot RAW, I am required to edit every photo I take. Which means approximately 50+ hours of post wedding day work is done on your photos, to be sure that the lighting, colours, and the look of every photo is perfect! I do not change the shape of your face, or shrink your body size, because it is not truthful and you are beautiful. But I will remove that pimple that appeared just this morning, or fix a clothing mishap, etc. It's all about making you look like your best YOU!

How far in advance do I need to book with you?

As soon as you know you want to hire me! My schedule fills up fast, and I can not hold the date for you until there is a contract signed and the deposit payed. Most clients book a year to two in advance. This also  allows plenty of time for our engagement session.

How much of a deposit do you require and when is it due?

The deposit is %15 of your package total, not including travel fees, and is non refundable. The remainder is due 2 weeks prior to your wedding day. Acceptable forms of payment are cash, cheque, or email money transfer.

How long does it take after the wedding to receive the photos?

You should expect your package approx. 8 weeks after your wedding. Because your album is ordered Internationally, sometimes it gets stuck in customs and that is beyond my control. There is also a lot of work to be done to make sure your photos are at their best. You can expect to see teasers up on Instagram or Facebook (@lacewoodstudios) within a few days though, and you are free to tag yourself to show off to your family and friends!
